QA problem (see picture), otherwise good product March 1, 2010 Quailster I have been using these for about 6 years now. The water tastes slightly better through this filter than tap water. About 95% of all liquid I drink is water, so this slight difference is important to me. To Brita, I wish you improve your QA process. About 1 in 4 filters has black stuff (charcoal?) coming out of it. This occurs both on the top and the bottom of the filter. I am very OCD, so I follow the directions exactly, which means that it's probably not my fault. I uploaded a picture for everyone to see (click on "see all customer images" at the top of the page). Still, even with this issue, I recommend this product because the filters are very cheap when bought in bulk and it does work, i.e. the water tastes better. For that 1 in 4 product with the defect, it can be annoying waiting for the charcoal to sink to the bottom every time I pour a glass of water. Also, I have to constantly remind myself that there's stuff at the bottom of the glass so that I won't accidentally swallow it. Thus, -1 star.
Great Deal February 25, 2010 L. BOLTMAN (San Diego, CA) I have had a Brita pitcher for about a year now and love it. I've done some considerable checking on the internet for replacement filters and this company came out tops. I received the filters promptly, in great shape, and they were all they promised to be at a great price. I highly recommend both the Brita pitcher and this company for replacements.
Great price for a useful product! February 10, 2010 GG (Corvallis, OR) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have used Brita filters for years. It has prevented my throat irritations that were caused by drinking tap water directly. When comparing cost per filter, this 10-pack is very cheap compared to a 3-pack.
Works Great! January 7, 2010 B. Heite (Falls City, OR United States) I have both a PUR filter on my faucet and 2 Brita Pitchers. My wife and I both agree the Brita is the better of the two. Not sure why, the PUR seems to be designed with a more in depth filter, but the Brita water has a distinctive neutral taste that you expect from water. I have a good source from a deep well, but Iron Bacteria is a problem, and the Brita does a great job of filtering any odd taste out. Highly recommended. Ignore the bits of charcoal that float up, they never get through, and it seems it is just a part of the fine charcoal filter package. They do last the advertised time, and it seems a lot better way to do it, than to have mega piles of empty plastic bottles, and you don't have to worry about plastic chemical leaching into the water you're drinking. Cost effective solution.
not necessary January 2, 2010 e_j_buster 0 out of 9 found this review helpful
According to the instructions, these filters should be replaced after 2 months or 40 gallons. But I've been using the same filter for nearly 5 years, and have filtered probably more than a thousand gallons of water through it, without any problems.
These replacement filters are not necessary at all. Sure, they work great. So it could be argued that they deserve a 5 star rating. The problem is, they work so well that there is rarely ever any good reason to replace them. If your filter is lost or stolen, then I would recommend getting a replacement filter. But if your filter is still doing the job, there is no need to replace it. You wouldn't replace a trusty old dog with a replacement dog, would you? Why replace a trusty water filter with another water filter? It makes no sense.
After nearly five years of reliability, I'll admit that my water is now slightly browner once it's been filtered. But this is to be expected after nearly five years of daily use. The water still tastes great!
note: I usually add a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice to each batch of water before it runs through the filter. This could explain the longevity of the filter. I don't know.
