Flimsy Piece of Junk August 21, 2010 David A Roddy (Albuquerque, NM, US) Bought on E-Bay. Zip Snake. Same piece of Junk as Turbo Snake. Came with two "snakes" and two velcro wall hooks. Both "Heads" broke off immediately in drain, despite gentle use as directed. Within one minute of inserting in the drain I was left with two pieces of cheap wire, probably five feet in length combined. Cleared the drain with a wire coat hanger. The lightweight hanger came free with my laundered dress shirt. ($1.89 for the shirt with medium starch.) Fortunately only $6.00 but worth less than 10 cents.
Wow! I couldn't believe my eyes! August 8, 2010 AfternoonFoxy8 I had not seen this product advertised on TV. I was in my local grocery store last night and found myself in the "As seen on TV" aisle. I saw the turbo snake and thought I'd give it a try. I was shocked and amazed! I pulled a "hairball" the size of a small animal out of my shower drain! (I rent my home and I have to wonder how much of that was mine...and how much was someone else's -- yuck!)
It wasn't AS easy as it looked on the commercial in their website, but I did manage. I wonder, however, if there is an easier way to "unhook" the clog from the hooked end...? I would highly recommend this product to anyone. I may go back to the store and buy one for everyone in my family!
turbo snake review July 12, 2010 M. Avina (Denver, Colorado United States) This product works great the first few times, then the black coil fails to work properly. You really have to twist it back into shape to use it again. It did pick up hair, but it is definitely NOT as easily used as shown on TV...
I am glad I didn't pay much for this worthless product. July 10, 2010 Man Skirt Brewing (Lake Hopatcong, NJ United States) I bought this to try to fix a slow sink drain. I opened the package and there were two snakes, one thicker than the other, and a little self-adhesive hook for hanging them. How clever (/sarcasm). And by "snakes" I mean "pieces of insulated wire with Velcro glued to it." That's all this product is - two pieces of electrical wire with Velcro. Oh and a little vinyl nub on the other end, apparently as a handle.
The thin one is for sinks. The package calls it "cylindrical", which it is not. It's just a small piece of Velcro folded back onto itself and glued in place.
So I tried it on my sink, following the directions. Insert snake, twist-twist-twist, remove snake. Where's the Velcro? Oh good, it's now jammed in my drain with the hair.
I checked the larger one for tub drains, and it has a larger rectangle of Velcro. Two pieces glued back-to-back. Grab the Velcro and it slides right off the end, leaving a gluey residue on the wire.
Even if the Velcro did not slide off the ends, it's useless. The first time you use it the hooks in the Velcro get jammed up with gunk and is very difficult to clean. So when you try to dip it back in and get more stuff out it doesn't grab anything. I found this out after I took the sink stopper apart and tried to gingerly use the large snake to retrieve the first piece of Velcro. A task at which I was unsuccessful.
I'll stick with a normal sink snake, thank you very much.
I can't believe there are 5 star reviews on this thing. If I could give 0 stars I would. This is beyond a rip-off.
Works well...buy from Amazon for best deal July 7, 2010 Jody Lau Bought this today at Walgreens thinking it would be more enviro than Drano. It worked well (I' m still creeped out by the hair globs I pulled out of the drain). But I paid nearly twice as much for it. That's an impulse buy for you.
